Professor Fillipo Randelli will present scientific evidence supporting the use of these collagen devices and how they are used in European practices to assist and accelerate the functional recovery phases. In his presentation, Prof Randelli specifically focused on the application of one of the devices, MD-Tissue, in treating Greater Trochanter Pain Syndrome (GTPS) (Effect of a Collagen-Based Compound on Morpho-Functional Properties of Cultured Human Tenocytes) published in the journal, ‘Cells’ in 2018. The research investigated the effectiveness of the injectable compound to repair cultured human tenocytes especially focusing on the collagen turnover pathways that assist in the healing process of the tendons. This is a new therapy that has only just become available for the first time in South Africa. October 2020 and is presented at the South African Orthopaedic Association Congress in Cape Town.
